On cleansing and scrubbing
On some post about face scrub on some blog a long time ago in a galaya far far away a reader asked "how many times a day should you use that scrub ?"
I almost shierked.
From trying to convince women not to sleep with their mascara and powder, we seem to have gone to the other extreme of cleansing-every-five-minutes mania. Let's not forget that cleansing your face, apart from removing dirt, also strips the skin of its protective oils and can disturb it's Ph level. Scrubbing removes dead skin cells and reveals fresh skin, but doing it too often or too hard harms the skin. The abrasive action can irritates skin.
"Stop scrubbing. Your face is not the bathroom floor." Dr Hauschka recommends doing away with exfoliation altogether, using the
method insetad.
So, how often is ok ?
Cleansing your face thoroughly once a day is usually enough. That means using the
double cleansing method. You will probably do that before going to bed, but sometimes I do that at whatever I get home and want to remove my makeup or sunscreen.
In the morning, you will usually need to just wash your face with water, unless your skin is especially oily. Our faces don't get dirty while sleeping. And Dr Hauschka recommends
not using a night cream, which interferes with the skin's nightly process of releasing toxins.
And scrubs ? Not more often than once a week. If your skin is flaking for some reason, use a moist soft towel to wipe the dead skin off. If you have problems with rosacea (shallow and fragile capillaries, making the skin look constantly flushed), you are not allowed to scrub. Try
Dr Hauschka's press and roll method instead.
