  • Our eco-mistakes and green-gullibility

Many of our attempts to live green are misguided: what might sound like a good idea might often does more harm ! Here are some common examples:

    • Washing your bottles before recycling them uses up much more water than when the recycling firm washes them in huge quantities (which they have to do anyway, since a lot of people recycle dirty bottles). Don't throw in jars still half-full of Mayonnaise, though.
    • This greenhouse made from plastic bottles and tires sounded like a great idea to me, before my other half enlightened me how the tires and bottles will leach chemicals into the soil. Remember the smell of tires in the sun ? When something smells like that, it means that the ingredients are breaking up !
    • Soy: while going vegetarian or vegan is amazing for the planet (not to mention the wonderful things it does for the body). But filling your diet with soy is not a good idea, because Soy is probably the most ecologically damaging crop grown on the earth, not to mention it's harmful effects on health. Instead of replacing a meat-centered diet with a soy-centered diet, discover the hundreds of amazing fruits, veggies, grains, nuts and herbs that exist out there !
    • Hybrid cars: they might actually not be better for the environment after all. I have not researched the topic in depth since I don't own and don't plan on owning a car, but if you are interested, Google around to find how much of the Hybrid car fame is just hype.

Here is a very funny video about how eco-gullible people can be !
Hundreds agreed to sign a petition to ban the chemical Di-Hydrogen-Monoxide... H2O, commonly known as Water !

So, do use your brain, and know the logic behind your decisions !

Do you have any stories of the dumb things we do, thinking that we are helping the environment ? Please share in the comments !
