I'm a hooper myself (just for a month now) and I truly regret that I didn't discovered it earlier this summer...
Where did you get the glitter tape?
I looove my black/white striped hoop(s), but... I am a girl and I'm a sucker for glitter ;) I desperately searched for glitter tape or holographic tape and... failed. It seems like there's not one single store that have such tape. -.-
Happy hooping!
Thanks ! I am ridiculously proud of them.
I got my tape from fancy-tapes-co.uk , they ship all over Europe. They have a wonderful selection of glitter and holographic tapes ! Also their Gaffer tape is really good, doesn't scratch easily as compared to Gaffer I bought in a craft shop.
If you are not in Europe, identi-tape.com ships to the US.
If you live in yet another continet, try to find info about tapes here.
In fact, I live in Germany, so fancy-tapes-co.uk would be the best option for me... (I instantly fell in love with the twinkling hearts tape)
The third link is pretty interesting! I thought that I was the only one who connects the tubing with a small piece of tubing instead of connectors. Nice to see that it's pretty common to improvise ^^ (Actually I didn't cope with the right connectors, although I own them.)
Thanks again for these helpful links!
I bought connectors from fancy-tapes, where did you buy yours ? Also, great to know that there are other hoopers in Germany (I only know there are some in Berlin). I barely managed with the right connectors, the water has to really boil, and the ends need to be in there for a long time ! I messed it up the second time, and the connector went in only halfway. It wouldn't go out either, and so the hoop was joined with an ugly gap... I had to put in the side of the entire hoop into the pot !!!
That's the reason why my first try was horrible and there was a HUGE gap, since I couldn't push the second end any further. In the end I had to cut it out but actually that didn't matter because the hoop was way too big and a bit flimsy anyway.
Maybe I'll sand the middle part of my remaining connector and give it a try with my next hoop.
Oh yes, it's really nice that there are other hoopers in Germany. :) I was pretty glad when I found your hoopy happiness blogpost via google, because most of the hoop-related websites I know seem to be american.
(By the way, I like your blog!)
The connectors from fancy-tapes are less than 1 pound each. So if you order tapes, you can order a couple of connectors ! I also went to the OBI at first, but the one near me had no tubing of the right size. In the end I'm glad I bought off Ebay, since you can find tubing by the meter.
my next project will be making a slightly lighter hoop, I want to see it it's easier for dancing.
You like my blog ? Thanks !!!
May I ask in which city you are ? I'm in Augsburg !
You're using 25mm diameter, right? Is it as heavy as it seems? When I was tube-shopping I had to choose bewtween 20 and 25mm. 25 felt pretty heavy (probably too heavy for me, especially for lift-up moves) and stiff, so I decided to take the smaller tubing. I have to admit that sometimes it gets a bit out of shape, so... probably it's great for making hoops which are not bigger than around 105 cm.
I live in Radolfzell, that's at the lake constance!
Ok, 'my' OBI sucks big time. They had only one unidentified roll, and that too of 30 mts...
Yes, I use 25mm and it is a bit stiff. However I don't find it very heavy. It makes for a nice, slow learning hoop. It's a 2,3 thickness, there is also 2,0 which would be slightly lighter. Anyway, I want to make myself another hoop out of 20mm, a quick one for dancing, I'll let you know how it compares. Does anyone else hoop in Radolfzell ?
Oh, I'd love to know how the different sizes compare :)
Other hoopers in Radolfzell... ehm, no. Not as far as I know. Unfortunately.
Hopefully there will be at least a few sunny autumn days to hoop outside, when it gets too cold I'll have to stay in the staircase - but even there I'm always afraid to hit the ceiling.
I've already tried out hooping indoors, and it was not very nice... I was so afraid of bumping into stuff that I could hardly dance at all. Some hoopers Well, in the worst case I'll just practice isolations all winter... ha ha
I'll try hooping outside when it's cold and snowy, but it's the wet & rainy weather which is the worst !
So, I decided to practice in our (warm!) living room during the winter time. Especially chest hooping (which is still difficult for me, it slipped down almost every time I tried it) and everything that doesn't requires too much free space. Practicing isolations sounds nice, too.
One reason more to look forward to the next summer!
That sounds a lot like my indoor hooping attempts
All the lamps in my home hang way too low ! I did shoulder hooping in my living room. The single advantage is that I could do it just in my bra, it's supposed to be the easiest way to learn. You could try that for chest hooping !
I plan to buy an online class from SaFire in the spring ! I can't wait !
You're right, hooping in a bra or next-to-nothing is much easier ^^ How's it going on with your hooping?
SaFires videos are great - I'm sure you'll have fun with the online class :)
You are right, I have experienced exactly the same thing with hooping in my bedroom ! I realised I have no idea what to dow ith my arms. And also that I need to dance more, instead of going from trick to trick. I've angled the mirror on my wardrobe so that I can see myself, that helps a lot !!! There is a "look ma no hands" challenge on hoopcity.ca forums, I think it's perfect for me to watch right now. Ok, I need to go and hoop now !
PS I almost have a crush on SaFire, when she hoop-dances she looks like a pixie !
I've checked the hoopcity-forums a lot in the last few days, maybe I'll join them :) That 'look ma no hands' challenge seems to be great. Oh, and I stumbled across the name of a girl who I discovered a few years ago... very surprising. She was/is some kind of musician and artist.
(Btw. I just followed you on twitter...)
Hoopcity is nice, and it's busier than hooping.org or even hooping tribe. They haven't got all ofe the basics covered like hooping tribe, but I find it friendlier somehow.
So the girl you found is now also a hooper ? Isn't it amazing how tiny the world is when you're online ! I've found people I'd "lost" years and years back, and
I'm hoping to hoop a little on a Halloween party ! Luckily I have two hoops now so I hope I can get my friends to try !
What kind of tube did you use for hulahoop ?
Want to make some for myself and friends.
Many thanks !!! = )
